Short tail keywords:

Short tail keywords are search phrases with only one or two words. For example, bath tub could be considered a short tail keyword for a business that is  selling or installing bath tubs. Although short tail keywords can be very competitive, they should be included in your SEO strategy.

Long tail keywords:

Long tail keywords, on the other hand, are those three and four keyword phrases that are very specific to whatever you are selling. For example, family friendly pizza restaurant in NC would be a long tail keyword for a local pizza establishment. Long tail keywords are also great for PPC because the the cost per click is usually lower due to less competition.

Location based keywords:

The best way to get around the competition is to use location based keywords. Location based keywords also known as geo-targeting, is optimizing your content to appear for your target location. Google my business is a great tool to use to help with being found locally.
